There are many strategies to reduce one’s stress through meditation. One exceptionally pleasurable and relaxing way to do this is to participate in a sound bath. A sound bath is a form of sound therapy. Many people find sound baths to be meditative even when they are not trying and that participating in them often brings therapeutic or restorative effects.
Different sound bath therapists use different instruments to create the sounds for their sound baths. But the sounds tend to be more open and drone-like and less structured compared to traditional music with rhythms and melodies that are arranged.
Popular and powerful instruments, Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, are used at Malibu Ashram sound baths so that participants can be fully submerged, or surrounded, by sound.
“Taking” a Sound Bath
Contrary to what it sounds like, taking a sound bath does not mean getting into a bathtub full of water or even getting wet. Different sound bath therapists have different techniques but sound bath participants often lie down or sit comfortably, sometimes while wearing an eye mask or covering over their eyes. A few minutes of guided breathing often starts a sound bath session, with the remainder of the session filling the space with different sounds and frequencies.
Come away from a Sound Bath at Malibu Ashram feeling more balanced, relaxed and with a sense of wholeness to your body, mind and spirit.
